Aliens come drifting down as letters and words, and your keyboard is the only weapon you've got. Type fast and clean to wipe them out before they touch the ground, climbing 21 levels from the home row all the way up to expert symbol chaos.
About Type Invaders
A typing game wearing a space-shooter costume, that's Type Invaders. Letters and words drop toward your turret, and you take each one out by typing it correctly before it lands. No aiming, no mouse, just your fingers and a steady rhythm. Things start gently on the home row (a s d f j k l), then the keyboard widens bit by bit, throwing in short and long words, numbers, punctuation, brackets, and eventually a brutal expert mode. Miss and you lose a life; string together accurate hits and your score climbs. The retro pixel look, with ambient letters floating around, keeps it feeling like a real arcade cabinet. And here's the trick: it's genuinely good practice that never feels like practice. This build is fully self-hosted and offline, the original web-font request swapped out for a bundled monospace fallback, plus a hidden text field so phone keyboards can drive it too. Open-source game by Robin Langer, used under the MIT license.
How to play Type Invaders
Press Space to start. Each falling invader carries a letter or word, so type it to lock on and fire. Finish the highlighted character or word and that invader's gone. Hit the quota shown at the bottom (HOME ROW 5/12, for example) to move on to the next of 21 levels. Let an invader reach the ground and you lose a life; lose all three and it's game over. The deeper you push, the wider the keyboard you'll need.
Controls
Letter/number/symbol keys type and destroy invaders. Space starts the game and pauses or resumes during play. Backspace clears a mistyped character. Escape returns to the title screen. N skips to the next level. Arrow keys pick a starting level on the title screen. On phones, tap the play area to bring up the on-screen keyboard, then type.
Tips & tricks
- Rest your fingers on the home row (a s d f j k l) so the early levels build correct muscle memory instead of hunt-and-peck.
- Prioritise the lowest invader on screen, the one closest to the ground, since that's the one about to cost you a life.
- Accuracy beats raw speed early on; a clean streak scores more than a flurry of mistypes you have to Backspace away.
- Press N to skip ahead if a level feels too easy, but don't rush, each new level only adds a couple of keys at a time.
- When words appear, glance at the first letter to commit to a target, then type the whole word without looking back up.
