▶ Play Impossible Tic-Tac-Toe Now
Classic noughts and crosses against a perfect, unbeatable AI — or a relaxed random-move easy mode. Play O against the machine's X on a charming hand-drawn notebook board.
Impossible Tic-Tac-Toe takes the game everyone learned as a kid and gives it a brain that never makes a mistake. On Impossible difficulty the computer uses a full minimax search, which means it has already considered every possible line of play before it moves — the very best you can ever do is force a draw, and a single slip hands it the win. That's the whole hook: can you play flawlessly enough to never lose? If you'd rather just mess around, Easy mode has X play random moves so you can rack up some wins. The whole thing is wrapped in a warm, hand-drawn aesthetic — wobbly ink grid lines, sketchy O's and X's that scribble themselves in, and a notebook-paper backdrop — with a running tally of your wins, losses and draws saved between visits. Quick, clever and quietly humbling.
You play O, the machine plays X, and you move first. Click or tap any empty cell to place your O; the computer instantly replies. Get three in a row, column or diagonal to win. On Impossible difficulty the AI plays perfectly, so aim for a draw and punish any opening in Easy mode. Switch difficulty any time, start a New game, or Reset scores.
Click or tap an empty square to place your mark. Use the EASY / IMPOSSIBLE toggle to set difficulty, New game to restart, and Reset scores to clear the tally.
